GARLAND HAMPTON Obituary

TURN ON YOUR VOLUME (Background music: "Chariots of Fire")

Garland Wayne Hampton,  Beloved Son-Brother-Husband-Father-Grandfather-Uncle-Friend

On April 6, 1956, the angels decided to bless Charles Hampton and Josie Lee Hampton with another bundle of joy. Garland was the fourth of the six children born to this union.

He was a product of the Little Rock School District; graduating from Parkview High School. His desire to learn continued as a student at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock where he pursued a degree in accounting. Numbers became his language.

Garland worked in the field of accounting for many years until a condition rendered him disabled. With time he accepted the situation he faced. It was also at this time he decided this life changing experience would not stop him from achieving the most important work of all…praising God and loving others. Simply said, he was a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. He loved hearing the “Word” and talking to God and His Beloved Son. Every day began with a prayer and ended with a prayer.

He received Christ at an early age at Duncan United Methodist Church.  In most recent years, he worshipped at Union A.M.E. Church.

Garland met Jacquelyn Richardson; and shortly after this meeting their lives began to change. The love shared between them was remarkable. They married on August 1, 2009 and built a solid family. He loved Ehryn and Jordan; and took them as his own. The love was returned. Although he was affectionately called “Grumpy Ole Man”, he was giving and kind. His family meant the world to him and he meant the world to them.

Garland departed this earthly tabernacle October 6, 2019. He leaves to cherish and embrace his memories: Jacquelyn Richardson Hampton (wife), Ehryn Parker (step-daughter), Jordan and Loran Parker (step-grandson); one brother, Robert (Myra) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma,  one sister, Sharon Hampton of Little Rock, one great step grandchild, Michelle Parker; one aunt, Eva Henson; two uncles, Jerry and Felton Trotter; Vanessa Hampton (sister-in-law), Rollie and June Richardson (brother and sister in-law), Yvonne and Tony Watson (sister and brother-in-law) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Garland left his earthly being on October 6, 2019 at Baptist Hospital, North Little Rock. Saying “good-bye” is always inevitable, but it’s a lot easier because Garland’s family has no doubt he has reached his heavenly destination. Memories of him will live on in their hearts.
