Billy Charles Smith was born on August 2, 1946, in Jonesboro, Louisiana to the union of Arthur Daniel (A. D.) Smith, Sr. and Lucille Walton Smith. He was the second oldest of five children born to this union.

Billy departed this life on January 4, 2023, at his home in Sherwood, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Dr. A. D. Smith, Jr., his sister Jennie Faye Smith, and his daughter Christina Smith.

Billy accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Grambling, Louisiana. He was educated at the Grambling College Laboratory Elementary and High Schools. He was Salutatorian of his eighth-grade graduation class, was a highly proficient trumpet player in the Grambling High Band, and an outstanding athlete on the Grambling High Football and Baseball teams.

Having received his High School Diploma in May of 1964, Billy went on to play his trumpet in the World Famed Grambling College Band, after which – and during the height of the Vietnam War – he voluntarily enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served his country gallantly during the next few years, receiving two Purple Hearts and a subsequent Honorable Discharge.

The Vietnam War took its toll on many of the soldiers of that era, and Billy was not excluded from its effects. In fact, it was his decision to seek assistance at the Veterans Administration Facility in Little Rock, Arkansas, that allowed him to meet the Love of his life, Vicki Lecrea Bell, who was also a Veteran and worked at the Little Rock V.A. This relationship blossomed, and on June 20, 1998, they were joined in Holy Matrimony and remained together until his death.

Billy leaves to mourn and cherish his memories: his wife; Vicki Bell Smith, his daughter; Charlene Harris, his son Billy Charles (Tamera) Smith II, his grandchildren; Drew Dominique Smith, Carlton Craig Harris, Charlize Simone Chavis, and Lyric Bell. Siblings: his brother Lonnie Blakely (Melba) Smith, his sister Cassandra Dian Smith,   his Mother-in-Love, whom he adored, Gwendolyn Bell-Ellis; his Sisters-in-Love Yolanda (Tommie) Fisher, Valencia (Harrold) Middleton, and JoAnn Bell; and many other relatives and friends.

This letter is to let you know that on January 4th, 2023, I moved. I received notice from GOD, the chief architect, who informed me that my new mansion was completed and ready for me to move in immediately.  You all know that for the past few years, I have been sending up my  timber, packing up my bags and getting ready to relocate.

There were some minor touch ups and finishes that had to be done with the timber that only the Chief Carpenter, Jesus the Christ could do. Some of the touch ups had to be discarded, and redone, while others were just right for the project.  The final coating to be added to seal the cracks, was to get my family and friends ready for my move, without them.

Well, now that my new home is finished and ready, it is all so beautiful, a sight to behold. It is located in a very exclusive gated estate with pearl columns, streets paved with gold and every day is like Sunday.  I've lived in many communities before my new home was prepared, and none of them can compare to this.

There is peace, joy, and happiness here, with no more pain or fear, strife or discontent. There is only sweet serenity everywhere, I can go on and on about my new home, but I have to go and get fitted for my new wings.  So let me give you all MY NEW ADDRESS;

                                                               BILLY CHARLES SMITH
