CECILE DOUGLAS - PENDLETON Obituary

Cecile Marie Douglas - Pendleton,

Our beloved Cecile Marie Douglas-Pendleton was born on February 3, 1943, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to George L. Douglas and Freddie Crossley Douglas.

At an early age, Cecile confessed her hope in Christ at Emanuel Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. E. C. Dyer, beginning a lifelong journey of faith and service.

Cecile received her early education at Booker T. Washington Elementary School, attended Dunbar Junior High School, and graduated from Horace Mann High School in the class of 1961. With a natural love for numbers, she later moved to Los Angeles, California, where she earned her degree in accounting. While there, she met and married the late Louis Henry Jackson, Sr., and to this union one son, Louis Henry Jackson, Jr., was born.

Cecile eventually returned to Little Rock to be near her mother and her ailing father. She began her career as a music teacher at West Side Junior High School and later worked as an accountant for the City of Little Rock under then Mayor Charles Bussey, where she faithfully served until her retirement.

Cecile was known for her joyful spirit and sense of humor; she loved to laugh, joke, and cook for those she loved. Her beauty was exemplified during her career as an Independent Beauty Consultant for the Mary Kay Cosmetics Company. She also had a special love for animals, especially her beloved cats, Snow, Tee Tee, and Chi Chi. However, her greatest passion was playing the piano. Gifted in her ability, she carried on the legacy of her mother, Mrs. Douglas, who taught piano lessons throughout Little Rock’s South End community. Among all who learned, Cecile was especially talented. She played for churches throughout the city and performed alongside the Art Porter Trio. She later became a member of Allison Memorial Presbyterian Church, where she served as pianist until her health declined. She was also a proud member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Women’s Post 1316, named in honor of her father.

Cecile was preceded in death by her parents, George L. Douglas and Freddie Crossley Douglas; her brothers, William “Bill” Douglas, James “Jim” Douglas, and Frederick Douglas; and her sister, Evelyn Douglas Rose Jones.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her beloved son, Louis (Alice) Henry Jackson, Jr., both of whom were her devoted caregivers; her granddaughter, Gabrielle Marie Jackson; her brother, Frank Douglas; her sister, Edna Robinson; and a host of loving nieces, nephews,  and dear friends.

Poem from HER Son

“The Stages of MY Mother’s Love”

1 year old - Mom you're my new beginning

5 years old – Mom, you’re my everything.

12 years old – Mom, you don’t understand me.

16 years old – Why is she always on my case?

18 years old – I can’t wait to move out.

25 years old – Mom, you were right about everything.

35 years old – I miss my mother’s comfort.

50 years old – I can’t imagine life without her.

83 years old – I’d give up the world just to hug her one more time.

You only get one mother in this life.

Love her. Appreciate her. Before all you’re left with are memories.

I LOVE YOU MOM, LOUIS

Poem by HER Sister

My dear sister, my lifelong friend,

A bond no time nor loss can end.

Through childhood days and grown-up years,

We shared our laughter, dreams, and tears.

You were my comfort, my steady guide,

A piece of my heart that walked beside.

In every memory, your love remains,

A gentle light through joy and pain.

Though God has called you home to rest,

I hold you close within my chest.

And while I miss you more each day,

In my heart, you’ll always stay.

Until we meet again above,

I send you all my endless love.

Your Loving Sister, Edna

Poem:

"When Tomorrow Starts Without Me"

When Tomorrow Starts without me
Please Try to understand
That an angel came and called my name
And took me by the hand
The angel said my place was ready
In Heaven far above
And That I would have to leave behind
All those I Dearly Love
But When I walked through
Heaven’s Gates
I felt so much at home
When God looked down and
Smiled at me, and told me
“Welcome Home.”
So when Tomorrow starts without me,
Don’t think we’re far apart,
For every time you think of me,
I’m right there in your heart.
