CEPHAS SIMMONS SR. Obituary

Cephas Simmons was born in Parkdale, AR to Mr. Bert Jr. and Hannah Furlow Simmons.

He accepted Christ under the leadership of Rev. York Williams at Rose Hill Baptist Church. He attended school in Wilmot and Dermott, AR.

Cephas Simmons was well known from the North to the South and the East to the West of Arkansas.  He never met a stranger; he would even pick up hitchhikers or help strangers with broken down vehicle on the side of the highway.  Cephas, commonly referred to as “Cecil”, loved working on vehicles, the Mechanic of Mechanics.  He was so good as a mechanic that one could describe the sound their vehicle was making, and he could diagnose it and be spot on with the diagnosis!  He loved standing under the tree with his Mechanic Friends swapping stories and mechanic tips for hours…. some of the conversations would be true and some not so true, sort of like a fish tale, but a mechanic tale.  One of Cephas most proud stories was of his birthday present from his sister Corean, she had a baby born on his birthday, August 15, 1967, she was affectionately known as “Reda”. He told that story for the last time in April 2023 to the nurses at the hospital.  He always spoke of his children and spent time with many of them, teaching them the art of mechanics.  Cephas loved his family. He was the laughter, the joker, and the road hog of the family.  He visited everyone from Little Rock to Wilmot, AR, he loved riding Motorcycles, and meeting the ladies.  He would help anyone, there was not a person he wouldn’t help… one may have to hear a lot of noise, but he would do what he could to help.  His greatest love was being an adamant CB Radio Operator, “501 Walking Tall”, his handle…he had CB radios in the vehicle and the house, he was known by many many many CB Radio Operators.

Cephas departed May 1, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents Bert Jr. and Hannah Furlow Simmons, two brothers James and John Henry Simmons; one sister Clementea Simmons Shelton, and two daughters Cathy Simmons Kings and TiJuana Scales.

Cephas leaves to cherish his memories five sons Terry Simmons of Magnolia, AR, Cephas Simmons Jr. of Milwaukee, WI, Nathan (Britni) Simmons of Lake Village, AR. Napoleon (Rosie) Scales Jr. of Fayetteville, AR, Sherman Terry. Four daughters Tina Hellums of Dallas, TX, Tonisha Turner of Jacksonville, AR, Lesley (Danny) Hall of Arizona, and Niretta Scales of Arizona. One Brother Albert Simmons of Jacksonville, AR; two sisters Cornelius Logan of Detroit, MI and Corean Johnson of Jacksonville, AR and a special Aunt Junitha Pierson.

Thirty-two grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
