CHARLES SLATER Obituary

 "Epitaph of a Sailor"

Charles Edward Slater, was born to the late mother, Louise Gilbert, and father; Benjamin Slater-
June19, 1937 in Higgins, Arkansas. 

Charles graduated from Arkansas Baptist School and received his bachelor’s degree. After graduation, he joined the Military Service, the branch of the U.S. Navy where he retired as a Chief Petty Officer. 

He met and married Belinda. Both were members of Lee Chapel A.M.E. Church. 

He was an active member at Lee Chapel A.M.E. Church for many years, even while he and Linda travelled after she became an Ordained Minister/Pastor in the A.M.E. Church, until his health began to decline.

Charles loved fishing, flea marketing, cooking, he was a chef in the United States Navy, for twenty years, Charles loved talking on his CB radio, his handles were Bud Light 716, Mean 716-Worlds Oldest Teenager,  He was a fun and loving person to all who met him. 

Charles is preceded in death by Benjamin Slater-Father, Louise Gilbert-Mother,
Anthony Charles Slater-Son. Will and Irma Hill, grandparents. And other
siblings. He is survived by: his wife Belinda Slater, Six children, two daughters - Cheryl E. Carroll (William), Virginia Beach, VA, Karen Slater Sherwood, AR, four sons; Torrence (Shawanna) Slater, Little Rock, AR, Benjamin C. Slater, Smithfield VA, Edwin Slater, North Little Rock, AR, Charles Mayo, Little Rock, AR. Twenty-five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, a sister, Charlene Slater, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

On May 2nd, 2025, Charles gently closed his eyes while at home with his family, and transitioned from mortal to immortality to be with the Lord. "This day, you shall be with ME in paradise."
