Doris Marie Bell was born January 6, 1943, to the late Berry Anderson and Eula Brown in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Bell; her brothers, Ezell Anderson and ____ Anderson; and her sisters, Brenda Peoples and Christine Brown.
She accepted Christ at an early age as a member of Gospel Temple Baptist Church in Little Rock, AR. Later she united with Greater St John Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Sherman McKenzie. She moved to Tampa, FL in 2009 and became a member of New Mt Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Larry L. Roundtree, II.
Doris attended Dunbar High School in Little Rock, AR. She worked for Timex Corp for almost 20 years followed by several other employers, while ultimately retiring from Kimberly-Clark Corporation in Conway, AR. She later moved to Tampa, FL where both her daughters resided.
Doris had a very strong work ethic. Her greatest joy in life were her three children, of whom she was fiercely and lovingly protective. As a young adult, she would sometimes work 2-3 jobs, when necessary, to make sure that her children were well provided for -- and they were.
Doris loved to attend church both in Little Rock, AR and later in Tampa, FL where she moved in 2009 to live closer to her daughters. She enjoyed singing in the choir at Greater St John Missionary Baptist Church and would often be summoned by her pastor to sing one of his favorite songs -- If You Have to Reach Way Down. Although she would pretend to fuss a bit when he called upon her to sing, she actually looked forward to it and enjoyed every moment, seemingly reaching down into her own soul while calling upon Jesus to pick her up.
Everyone who knows Doris knows that she had a great sense of humor. If you had the opportunity to be around her you would be guaranteed to smile, laugh and have a good time. She was avid bowler. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling in the local bowling league. Her bowling team, comprised of her own children, was affectionately named “All My Children”. She was amused and proud at the same time.
She enjoyed working in her church pantry at New Mt Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Throughout her life, she was passionate about helping others. This included voluntarily providing in-home care to individuals in need, providing transportation to the elderly, and providing basic necessities to those who did not have the means to provide it for themselves (including food, clothing, and medical supplies). She would also take in friends and family who were in need of temporary shelter and assisted them with bridging the gap to get to their next level of success in life.
Cherishing her beautiful memories forever are her children, Donna Barnes, Tampa, FL, Reginald Cooper, Little Rock, AR, Angela (Todd) Jones, Tampa, FL; brothers, Kenneth McNeil, Jeryl (Vivian) McNeil, both of Little Rock, AR; sisters, Barbara Hardy (Chicago, IL), Patricia Brown and Venita Brown, both of Little Rock, AR; grandsons, Stanley (Gabriel) White, Jr, Cameron (Yaritzabeth) Jones, Christian Jones, all of Tampa, FL; granddaughter: Candice Cooper, Little Rock, AR; great-grandchildren, Dynasty White, Elijah Jones, Jeremiah Jones and Isabella Jones, all of Tampa, FL; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
