FRED DOUGLAS McCOY JR.

It is with extreme sadness that we announce Fred Douglas McCoy Jr, age 84, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on March 23, 2022, after a having lived a full life. 

Fred was born on December 25, 1937, to Fred Douglas McCoy Sr. and Goldie McCoy in Indianapolis, IN. After Fred graduated from Arsenal Tech High School in 1955, he went on to study and achieve his bachelor's degree at Colorado State University. It was at Colorado State that he also excelled in the collegiate sports of basketball, track, and field. 

After graduating with a degree in Science, he started his job as an insurance agent, kickstarting a very successful 33-year career with State Farm. 

Fred married three times, first to Gloria Jean McCoy, second to Sherri Whitfield-McCoy and his third wife, Juanita Avant-McCoy. He had two children, Fred Douglas McCoy III and DuJuan McCoy and had many beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

In 2002, Fred retired and spent his time traveling, golfing, playing racquetball and tennis, and spectating his favorite sporting events. His favorite teams were IU basketball, Indianapolis Colts, and the Indiana Pacers. 

He is survived by his wife Juanita McCoy, his sons Fred and DuJuan McCoy and his extended grandchildren as well as countless friends and lives he touched throughout his life. 

Fred was a hard-working man, resilient figure in the community and a person who provided exemplary effort in all that he did. Fred was unassuming yet rose to meet challenges with strength and confidence. We are proud to have been able to call him our father and our friend. He was a mentor and a bright spark in this world and will be deeply missed by many. We take comfort in knowing that Fred is now at peace surrounded by light.
