Gwendolyn Muriel Young transitioned into heaven on August 8, 2021, surrounded by family and loved ones at home. She was born at home in Little Rock, Arkansas, on October 27, 1937, to Lauderdale and Bernice Richardson, who preceded her in death.
Gwen accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and was always involved with the church. Her last church home was the Friendly Chapel Church of the Nazarene, where she faithfully prepared visitor bags for the church.
She graduated from J.C. Cook High School in Wrightsville, AR, and later graduated from Capital City Business College. Gwen worked for more than 20 years at Metropolitan, from where she retired.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Herndon Richardson, Sr. and Quainmon Richardson, step-siblings Ira Richardson, and Lillie Stallcup. She is survived by her daughters, Judi Sherman (William), Angela Dodson, and her son Dwight Finn (Sheila). She is also survived by seven grandchildren; Katrina Dailey, Kristina Finn, Krystal Mitchell, Kristopher Finn, Trey Finn, Christopher Sherman (Jacinta), and Logan Dodson, nine great-grandchildren; Knya Dailey, Keirra Dailey, Edward Dailey III, Kae’la Mitchell, Kevin Mitchell Jr., Dynasty McGraw, Khloe Rae McGraw, Kingston McGraw, and Kason Finn, and one great- great-grandchild; Karsyn Dukes. She is also survived by her brothers Vernon Richardson (Carolyn) and Al Richardson (Linda) and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Many of her relatives and friends affectionately called her “Wenamurl,” a combination of her first and middle names. Gwen loved watching game shows and soap operas. She also was a strong alto singer and sang in church choirs and groups most of her life. And was a true lover of all types of Christian music, from the Gaithers to modern gospel. She was an excellent cook, learned from her mother, and loved cooking for her family and having family dinners and holiday parties.
Gwen was the type of mother that every friend of her children and grandchildren also called her mom or memaw. She was always concerned with the happiness and well-being of all her children and grandchildren. She raised them all to come to know and love Jesus Christ.
