In Loving Memory Mrs. Hannah Bell Joe Lynch Our beloved, Hannah Bell Joe Lynch, was delivered into eternal peace on January 29, 2020 at Arkansas Hospice in Little Rock, Arkansas. Her life journey began in Palestine, Texas on September 8, 1919. She was the first daughter and fifth of 13 children born to Alonzo and Callie Joe. The Joe’s roots were firmly anchored in the values and traditions emanating from faith, farming, and family. Hannah’s upbringing developed the confidence and independent spirit that led her to North Little Rock at the age of 18 where she met and married Robert E. Lynch. Hannah was a loving mother to seven children. She was an active member of the PTA at St. Augustine Catholic School and Scipio A. Jones High School. Hannah vigorously challenged, motivated, and supported her children in seeking higher education and advanced learning. Hannah was as devoted to her community as she was to family. She took an active leadership role in the North Little Rock Black Letter Carriers Organization as the wife of one of the first black postal workers in North Little Rock. Her service carried on later in life as a representative for the AARP Highland Park Chapter 4982. She remained in this role for several years advocating for seniors’ rights in North Little Rock. As a woman of great faith, she joined Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church of North Little Rock and remained an active and dedicated member for over 70 years. For several years, she sang with the choir, served on the Shiloh Mission, the North Little Rock City Mission, and also taught Sunday school. To know Hannah is to know she loved fishing and spent many early mornings at freshwater lakes and rivers around Arkansas. She enjoyed the friendly competition with her sons and sonsin-law to see who would catch the biggest fish while rightfully bragging about her expertise. Surrounded by family and friends, Hannah celebrated her 100th birthday on September 8, 2019, a milestone recognized by the cities of Little Rock and North Little Rock, and The Today Show on NBC. 100 years of life represents longevity, meaning, and purpose. Hannah’s family has been honored to love her over their lifetime. Hannah’s life is a legacy of strength, style, loving wisdom, keen wit, playful humor, as well as a legendary strong-will. She was preceded in death by her parents, 11 of her 13 siblings, a son (at birth), and a granddaughter. She is survived by her sister, Lorraine Norwood of Tuscon, AZ; her 7 children: Charles Edward Lynch of Houston, TX, Annie Lynch Williams of St. Louis, MO, Alma Lynch Williams of Oakland, CA, Hazel LaVerne Lynch of North Little Rock, AR, Janice Lynch (Tyrone) Davis, Ray Ellison (Nancy) Lynch, and Richard Alan (Monica) Lynch. Hannah is also survived by 11 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and loving sons- and daughters-in-law.
