John Walden Whitfield 85, born on February 18, 1938. He was the third of six children born to his parents in Scottsboro, AL. In 1942, he moved to Little Rock with his family, his parents and siblings. John graduated from Horace Mann Class of 1958 with his first cousin, Robert E. Whitfield.
He loved his family and lived with his parents until they transitioned, his father in 1979 and his mother in 1990, afterwards, he moved in to live with his brother Bob and sister in love Connie from 1990 until his transition. He never married, or had any children, he always loved children and dogs. He loved playing board games with his nieces and nephews. .
John had a great love for music of all genres, especially old school R&B, Country, Gospel and Jazz. His love for sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team, college and professional basketball and football there were no favorite teams. Eating, laughing, singing, dancing, and having fun and playing the organ (in his bedroom) were all past time enjoyments that he possessed.
One thing that John would gracefully do, that is admiring and complimenting women, he really loved his neighbors and church family. He was very eager to sing in the choir and serve as an usher at Union AME Church and Bullock Temple CME Church.
JOHN WALDEN WHITFIELD was embraced into eternity on June 8, 2023. He was preceded into eternity by his loving parents, William H. Whitfield, Sr. and Rose Strong Whitfield; his beloved brothers, William H. and Dr. George W. Whitfield.
To carry on his legacy of love, he leaves his devoted brother and sister in love, both, who were also his primary care givers, Robert “Bob” Whitfield and Constance Clayborne Whitfield; sisters, Billie Rose Jacobs and Roberta (Hamlet) Kelley; sisters in love, Shirley and Jimmye Dean Whitfield; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Special thanks to his home hospice care team.
