Michael ‘Mike’ Stephon Persons was born on January 9, 1971 to Gary Persons and the late Shirley Traylor Persons in Dayton, Ohio. He gave his life to Christ on March 18, 1984 at the age of 13 and was baptized by the late Reverend J.O. Peterson at Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia on April 19, 1984.
Michael graduated from Thomas Edison High School in Alexandria, Virginia in 1990 and attended George Mason University.
Mike worked in various occupational fields. He worked in retail as a clerk and also was a bank teller and parking lot attendant. He taught basic computer classes to handicap students in the Las Vegas School System. As a child, the hobbies Mike loved included rolling string into balls and collecting miniature glass figurines. Mike had a great fascination with electronics. He wired computer boards and always had the latest smart phones, televisions, and games. He actually built a functioning computer! Mike always had several computers, cell phones, and 2 or 3 large screen televisions interconnected.
Mike was very compassionate and always related to younger children. He loved being a big brother to Tsegaya. He was very fond of his nieces, Laurie and Ashley, and also remembered their birthdays and sent gifts at Christmas.
Mike was extremely cold-natured. He did not like air conditioners. In an attempt to avoid the cold weather, he migrated from Ohio to Virginia, to Washington D.C. to Florida, and ultimately fell in love with the warm climate in Las Vegas, Nevada and settled there.
On Friday, September 23, 2016 at 11:24 A.M., in the presence of his father, sister, and brother, at Southern Hills Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada, Michael Stephon Persons transitioned to his heavenly home. He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Traylor Persons, and his grandparents. He leaves to mourn his homegoing and cherish his memories,:father, Gary and stepmother LaVera, stepmother, Linda Persons, who reared him from 2 years old to an adult;,sister, Monica Persons (Capt. Randall) Garner; brother, Tsegaya Persons; nieces, Laurie and Ashley; aunts, Shirley (Bernard) James, Marva (Michael) Benjamin, Naomi Persons, and Marilyn Persons; uncle, Gerald (Frances) Persons, grandnephew, Liam; and a host of cousins and friends.
In spite of his failing health, Mike always “did it his way.” He never complained nor asked God, “Why Me Lord?” He fought a good fight on his terms. Mike’s family will miss him dearly and request your prayers during these trying times.
