"My mother taught me that a woman is capable of accomplishing just as much as a man." - Albert Bass
Pauline Reynolds-Morris 73 of Little Rock, Arkansas. On July 23rd 2021, she delivered her final earthly truckload of eternal valuables to 111 Alpha Street in the city of Omega, in the state of Heaven and in the country of Eternity. She transferred her delivery while her family was with her at home. Pauline was Strong, generous, grounded, and phenomenal. One of five children, Pauline Morris was born on September 6, 1948 in Little Rock, Arkansas to James E. and Bertha Lee Richards Reynolds. She lived her life as "Paul" her nickname, a Mama, Daughter, Auntie, Sister, Cousin, Niece, Mentor, Neighbor, and Friend. She lived a life that burst like a vibrant firework throughout all of our lives. With a contagious laugh and colorful language, Pauline painted our lives with joy and beautiful memories. She inspired several generations, who had the honor of witnessing her beauty, so that we have the right to stand up for ourselves and put in the work to get what we want out of life.
Every year since high school, our beloved Pauline worked. She knew the value of putting her feet to the pavement and making things happen instead of waiting around for them to begin. Pauline saw more miles on the road than most of us can imagine, well over two million miles to be exact.
As a professional licensed semi truck driver, where she excelled and used her tenacity to thrive in a world that was not the norm for Black women, she made room where she saw fit. Most importantly, Pauline brought others along for the ride, expanding our view of our country and the distances we could travel literally and figuratively. She showed us that a woman is capable of accomplishing just as much as a man. Pauline Morris did what the Bible instructs us to do in Matthew 25:14-30. She has left us a legacy of utilizing our talents, not wasting our time and gifts. She didn't use excuses and was a good steward over her capacity when it was easy and when it was challenging. She lived phenomenally. She is preceded in death by her parents; James and Bertha Reynolds, and one sibling: Yvonne "Monty" Waites. She is survived by: her sons; Albert (Shantel Brown) Bass, Johnny Morris Jr., Roy Morris and daughter; Tounia Matthews-Morris, Siblings; Chaplain James and Jack (Anita) Reynolds and Priscilla (Willie) Hill and a host of other relatives and friends.
Excerpt from Phenomenal Woman, by Maya Angelou
Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I’m telling lies.
I say,
It’s in the reach of my arms,
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.
Now you understand
Just why my head’s not bowed.
I don’t shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing,
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It’s in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need for my care.
’Cause I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.
