Presiding Elder (retired) Charles M. Cleaver, Sr. 89 of Little Rock transitioned on Tuesday, December 15, 2020. For forty years he served faithfully as Pastor and Presiding Elder in the Arkansas Conference of the Twelfth District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. He was a delegate to several General Conferences of our Zion.
Retired Presiding Elder, Charles M. Cleaver, Sr., was born June 6, 1931. He accepted Christ at an early age and was united with Lee Chapel A.M.E. Church in North little Rock, Arkansas, located in the Military Heights Community. Charles M. Cleaver, Sr. Graduated from Jones High School in North Little Rock, he also graduated from Shorter College, and earned a Bachler Arts Degree from Baptist College in Little Rock, Arkansas.
While a member of Lee Chapel, he served as Sunday School teacher, Superintendent, Trustee and Steward. He answered the call to preach in 1966, and received appointments to serve Mt. Zion, Bisco, Bethel Des Arc, St. John, Jacksonville, Ward Chapel, Little Rock, St. Andrew, Little Rock
and Presiding Elder of the North Little Rock Fort Smith District.
On July 3, 1952, he married the love of his life Delilah Coleman. To this union three Children were Born, Charles M. Cleaver III, Reginald Cleaver, Sr. (Dwana) and Christal Cleaver.
Rev. Cleaver was an avid fisherman, and he could clean out a lake. He loved his wife, his family, and he loved the Lord.
He was preceded in death, by his Father, Charles M. Cleaver and Mother, Dorothy Tillman. He Leaves to Cherish his memory his wife Delilah Cleaver, Sons Charles M. Cleaver III, Reginald Cleaver, Sr. (Dwana) Daughter Christal M. Cleaver. Grandchildren, Onjavahr Cleaver, Gequalon Cleaver, Simuel Overall, Elyse J. Cleaver, Reginald Cleaver, Jr. Timothy J. Cleaver, Chicarra R. Cleaver, and Mariah J. Vines. Great-Grandchildren and a host of cousins and friends.
Kelly Smith Funeral & Cremation Services (8424 Kanis Road * 501-612-5607 Little Rock Arkansas) will be serving the Cleaver families. A walk through viewing will be on Tuesday December 22nd, 12:00noon - 4:30pm at the funeral home's O.T. SMITH MEMORIAL Chapel, the walk through family hour will be on December 22nd, 6:00-7:00pm at Lee Chapel A.M.E. Church 421 West 22nd Street North Little Rock, AR. The graveside service will be Wednesday December 23rd 1:00pm at Pinecrest Memorial Park 7401 (Stagecoach Road) Highway 5 in Alexander, AR. We will be practicing COVID-19 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS!
