"A GOLFER'S TEE"
Rev. Anthony F. Honeycutt, age 84, of Little Rock, Arkansas, peacefully transitioned from this life on May 11, 2025. A devoted man of faith, Rev. Honeycutt lived a life centered on spreading the love, hope, and mercy of God. His unwavering commitment to ministry and his compassionate spirit touched the lives of many across generations.
Anthony was born on July 14, 1940, to the late Ervin and Willie Mae Coulter Honeycutt. He graduated from Okolona High School for Coloreds in Okolona, Mississippi, in 1958 and furthered his spiritual education at Jackson Seminary School in Atlanta, Georgia. Answering his call to ministry, he became a licensed and ordained minister and pastored three churches during his lifetime: Pilgrim Valley Missionary Baptist Church and Greater Rose of Sharon, both in Little Rock, and St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Lonoke, Arkansas. He also served faithfully as an associate minister at St. Peter's Rock Baptist Church and Christway Missionary Baptist Church.
Rev. Honeycutt was a long-time teacher of Sunday School Class #10 at St. Peter’s Rock and gave the Children Class #39 message during Sunday morning worship. He taught in the Union District Congress for many years and was a Lay Chaplain with The City of Hope. He also taught Bible study at Camp Aldersgate, where he inspired many and taught both children and adults how to fish, combining his love for the outdoors with his heart for ministry.
On August 18, 1967, Anthony married Sally A. Rycraw. To this union, their beloved daughter Antwanette was born. He was also a devoted father to Sharon McCombs and the late Brenda Walker. Anthony was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He had the honor of officiating weddings and delivering eulogies for many of his friends and church family, offering words of comfort and love in both joyful and sorrowful times.
A man of many talents, Rev. Honeycutt was a licensed cosmetologist and hair stylist for over 40 years and an entrepreneur who co-owned Charm Shop. He was an excellent stylist who won many hair competitions throughout his career. His love for doing hair allowed him to watch many generations grow up, and he ministered to countless clients while they sat in his chair, offering not only style but also encouragement and faith.
Outside of his professional and ministerial duties, Rev. Honeycutt found deep joy and relaxation in fishing, hunting, and golfing. These pastimes were more than just hobbies, they were moments where he could connect with nature, reflect quietly, and recharge his spirit. Fishing allowed him to enjoy peaceful mornings by the water, often sharing stories and laughter with family and friends. Hunting gave him a chance to embrace the outdoors and practice patience and focus. Golfing was a particular passion; he could often be found practicing his swing in the front yard, perfecting his game with a determination that matched his approach to life. These activities brought balance and happiness, enriching his days beyond his many responsibilities.
Rev. Honeycutt’s warm laughter and playful spirit were infectious, lighting up any room he entered and brightening the lives of those around him. He had a unique way of making people feel seen and valued, always ready with a kind word, a gentle joke, or a listening ear. His generous heart extended beyond his family to friends, church members, and even strangers, embodying the love and compassion he preached. His presence was a constant source of comfort, encouragement, and inspiration, leaving an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Through his faith, joy, and kindness, he truly made the world a better place.
He leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, and service. Cherishing his memory are his wife of 57 years, Sally Rycraw Honeycutt, daughters Sharon McCombs and Antwanette Melvin Smith, his sister Mechelle Coleman, and a host of grandchildren, extended family members, church family, and lifelong friends. His impact on their lives and the community will continue to be felt for generations to come.
Rev. Honeycutt’s warm spirit, wise counsel, and powerful voice for God are already deeply missed. His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and his legacy one of love and unwavering faith. He lived fully, loved deeply, and served tirelessly leaving behind a lasting example for all who knew him.
Well done, good and faithful servant. Matthew 25:23
