SHARON FOWLER-ANDERSON Obituary

Sharon Gail Fowler Anderson, 77, of Kansas City, Missouri entered into eternity on Feb. 28, 2023. She was born to William Harry and Marion Virginia Fowler on January 2, 1946 in Little Rock, Arkansas and was the firstborn of five daughters.  

She is survived by her son William Eric Anderson of Kansas City, Mo., her four Sisters; Virginia Fowler Walden Ford and Harrietta Fowler Lindsey, both of Little Rock, Doris Fowler Wilson of Edmond, Okla. and Rev. Dr. Renee Fowler Hornbuckle of Colleyville, Texas; her adoring nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews along with many other relatives and friends.  

Sharon worshiped and served faithfully in many capacities in churches in cities where she resided over the years. White Memorial United Methodist Church, Little Rock, Arkansas * Agape/Destiny Pointe Christian Center, Arlington, Texas * St. Andrew United Methodist Church, Kansas City, Missouri.  

Sharon was an amazing and talented educator who held a number of degrees: Doctor of Philosophy (Religious Education in Speech Communication) Friends International Christian University, Merced, California. 

DISSERTATION: THE AFRICAN-AMERICAN CHURCHES: FROM AFRICA TO AMERICA; Master of Arts, (Higher Education Administration; Reading) * University of Missouri- Kansas City, Kansas City, Missouri * Bachelor of Arts, (English, Speech and Theater Arts) * Baker University, Baldwin City, Kansas * She designed undergraduate and graduate courses in Speech, Debate, and Theater Arts, such as * Introduction to Theater, Lighting and Scenic Design, Acting I, Acting II, History of Theater, Technical Stage Crew, and Business classes.  

Responsibilities included: selecting readings, designing syllabus, developing class activities, creating all student work, producing or directing (secular and sacred) community, public school and college/university productions. Collaborated with colleagues in designing Communication, social media, Cinematography, and Theater Arts departments on course curriculum and department productions. 

Teacher and Instructional Administrator: Kansas City, Missouri School District * Little Rock, Arkansas School District * School Districts in Dallas, Texas and Arlington, Texas.  

Gail was a visionary. In1980 she and several other women started a social and civic club in Little Rock, Arkansas. That organization was named, L’Elite Inc. (the chosen few). The organization annually gave scholarships to High School senior young ladies for many years. Today the organization is still in existence 43 years later. 

Founder, CEO, Creative Director, Motivational Speaker, and Model of SGFA EducTheaArts,LLC/L’image de Modele Modeling And Talent Agency. * Fulbright- Hayes Congressional Scholarship to study abroad in Senegal, WEST AFRICA University of Cheik Anta Diop of Dakar * Gaston Berger University of Saint Louise’ and West African Research Association. 

She was the reigning Mrs. Arkansas America” in 1990-1991, the first African American winner. She also represented Arkansas in the International Pageant held in Moscow, Russia and was chosen as Mrs. Congeniality. 

She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. She served in many other special positions: Director of the Office of Multi- Cultural Affairs University of Texas- Arlington * Coordinator of Recruiting Lincoln University, Jefferson City, MO * Director for Community Outreach “A New Beginning Studio.” Sharon enjoyed the finer things in life; dining, travelling, shopping, musicals/drama, antiques, museums, family, and movies that depict American and African culture.  

Continuing Education- Philander Smith College Little Rock, Arkansas. Professor; “Theater Appreciation” and” Children’s Theater” Tarrant County College District Fort Worth, Texas. 

She leaves an incredible legacy of supporting and encouraging students in many creative endeavors.
