TAMMY YVETTE OWENS

Tammy Yvette Owens 59, of Little Rock, transitioned into eternity on Sunday, June 15, 2026. Tammy was born to the late Fred Owens Sr. and Marian June Hurvey Owens in San Antonio, Texas on November 24, 1966. She was the seventh child of eight. She was an extraordinary and wonderful loving person, she loved her family, and working with children. She went to Catholic School in Texas, was a Little Rock Central High School Class of 1984 graduate. She graduated from the following places of higher education;  UALR, Bishop, and Auston Peg  earning her  Associate, Bachelor's, and Master's Degrees in Education and Social Work.

She listened to K-love radio station and had it playing during her last moments. It was her favorite station. She loved comedy and romance movies.  Tammy enjoyed reading and the arts and encouraged her children to love art and books, African art and poetry. mom would always drag us to Barnes & Noble Bookstores where she would find peace and drink her "BLACK" coffee. If we didn't go to the bookstore, then off to the library we go for hours at at time.

Outdoors and adventure, travelling and cross country road trips with her daughters. Her favorite places to visit was Washington State and San Antonio. were a thing in her foresight and she would always make time in her life to enjoy the fun of  life. She would say "travelling is life."  She loved her family and friends, but most of ALL, she loved the loved

She enjoyed Thrifting and giving back to the community in volunteering to serve others, She was an Advocate for children with special needs in Virginia and Arkansas 

She loved the ocean, She talked about her grandchildren and children to everyone. We were her pride and joy. She loved her son-in-laws.  At the end of each visit with her she would list everyone and say tell them I love them.  She loved Asian food particularly Chinese and Thai and fried catfish. Each Friday night we would either have fish or Chinese food. 

Book stores and libraries were her favorite hangouts. We would spend hours at Barns and Noble while she drank her coffee and read her book. Fanatic coffee drinker... straight black. Her favorite author was Terry McMillan's book was "A Day Late and A Dollar Short," her scripture was Psalms 23 and Matthew 6:9-13, her favorite prayers were The Lord's Prayer and the Serenity Prayer. Poet was Maya Angelou, favorite colors were purple and red plus a variety of colors. Her favorite tv shows/movies were "White Chicks", "Steve Harvey Show," movie "The Game," and "The Price Is Right." If you knew Tammy, then you would know that she loved African art and clothing. 

Tammy received numerous awards, one particular was from the Barry Robinson Center in Virginia for supporting families.   

Mom would often talk about her fun in Catholic school, spending vacations in Little Rock, Arkansas visiting her grandmother, Azzie Lee Owens, her uncles Shugg, Tauheed, Wendell & aunt Dorothy, and some times, she might even catch aunt Mabel, her cousins Hilma, Pam, Penny, Rosalyn and Kelly and others and some friends that she made in Arkansas. She had a very special bond with her aunt Dorothy. Later in life after living different places across the country, she finally moved to Arkansas, where she spent the remainder of her life. Tammy is preceded in death by her parents, siblings; Stanley, Fred Jr., Caroline, Jackie, and Sheryl.

She leaves to cherish her love and smiles her daughters; Tiffany (Dramane) Kologo and Dominique (Quincy) Davis-Shepherd, one sister Valerie Owens, grandchildren; Mackinze Davis, Kailyn Parker, Olivia Parker, Zaiden Kologo, Zaria Kologo, Zurial Kologo, Bethany Shepherd, Marqueaz Shepherd, Quincy Shepherd Jr., and Amelia Moriss and a great host of family and friends. 

Services are as scheduled, a  Family Hour will be 12:30-1:30pm, the funeral service will be at 1:30pm. Both services will be held on Saturday June 27th at the Salvation Army Worship Center 5100 N. Locust Street in North Little Rock (4 blocks West up McCain Blvd  behind Hardy's Burgers on JFK & McCain) KELLY SMITH FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES * 8424 Kanis Road, Little Rock, will be serving the Owens families.
