Verma White Cooper was born October 30, 1927 in Cotton Plant, Arkansas to the late Reverend Cleveland Grover White and Serena Razor White. She was the sixth child of two brothers and five sisters, all who proceeded her in death. She was married to the late Reynold Cooper on August 24, 1948 and were blessed with one son and one daughter.  She later married Alonzo Johnson who also proceeded her in death. Mrs. Cooper received her early formal education in the Cotton Plant Vocational schools, and after graduating she attended Philander Smith College receiving her Bachelor’s in Home Economics. While there, she pledged Sigma Gamma Rho and was active until her health failed her. After her Bachelor’s she continued her studies further and received her Master of Science in Education from Arkansas State University and further graduate study from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Mrs. Cooper started her educational teaching journey in Chidester, AR, but soon moved to Little Rock and began a long teaching tenure with the North Little Rock School System until her retirement in 1985. Mrs. Cooper was a long member of Bullock Temple and a dedicated servant. She served as President of the Usher Board and Missionary Society, a member of the Chancel Choir, the Stewardess Board and member of the Sunday School. On December 27, 2018, Mrs. Cooper departed this earthly life peacefully in her sleep. She leaves to cherish her memories her son, Ronald Cooper of Little Rock, daughter Melanie (Tyrone) Martin of Dallas, TX; 2 grandsons, Terrence Martin of Mesquite, TX; Taurean Martin of Dallas, TX; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, brother/sister in-laws, friends and a special great niece, Theopia Jones of Little Rock. Visitation 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Family Hour 11:00 - 12:00, and the Funeral will start at 12:00 noon. All services will be Wednesday January 2, 2019 at Bullock Temple C.M.E. Church 1513 S. Park Street. There will be a repast  for the family and friends at the church fellowship hall following the Interment (Pinecrest Memorial Park at 2:30 p.m.).
